Melaka keeps Hari Raya Open House to ‘treat’ locals, says Ab Rauf

MELAKA: The state government’s decision to proceed with a Melaka-level Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house to show appreciation, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

“I would not have been able to achieve this level of success without the people’s support, and the state government wants to ‘belanja’ (treat) the locals,” he told The Star on Saturday (March 14).

He said the event, to be held on March 28, would feature a spread of festive dishes and delicacies for the public despite the Federal Government’s decision not to hold any Hari Raya open houses this year.

On March 11, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim directed all government agencies, government-linked companies and government-linked investment companies not to hold Hari Raya Aidilfitri open houses this year.

He said the move was due to the economic impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, adding that the number of trips by ministers and government officials should also be reduced.
