Amirudin tasked with detailing cooperation for Melaka state election

SERDANG: Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has been tasked with detailing the proposed cooperation between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional, including seat allocations for the Melaka state election.

Pakatan chairman and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Amirudin, who is also the Pakatan election director, had been given the mandate to look into the matter.

“We have entrusted Amir (Amirudin) to work out the details,” he told reporters after attending the National-level Maulidur Rasul celebration for 1448H/2026 here on Monday (Aug 25), Bernama reported.

Anwar was responding to reports that his recent meeting with Amirudin also touched on seat allocations for the Melaka polls.

However, Anwar said the meeting was actually related to the Malaysia Games (Sukma), and not politics.

“I met the Selangor Mentri Besar regarding Sukma. During the Games, when would there be time (for politics)?” he said.

Asked about the possibility of cooperation between political parties in the Melaka election, Anwar said cooperation was important not only in politics but also in life and governance.

“Room for cooperation... In life, we must cooperate. Everything involves cooperation,” he said briefly.

Yesterday (Aug 24), Pakatan communications director and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil confirmed that Amirudin met Anwar on Sunday.

Anwar had previously been reported as saying that the Pakatan election committee would discuss the possibility of working with Barisan for the Melaka polls.

The committee is led by Amirudin and Pakatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
