PETALING JAYA: A total of sixteen areas in Malaysia recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 9am on Wednesday (Aug 26), according to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
In Sarawak, three areas recorded unhealthy readings, namely Seri Aman with an API reading of 166, IPD Serian (164), and Samarahan (162).
In Negri Sembilan, Nilai recorded an API of 162; in Kuala Lumpur, Cheras had an API of 159; and Putrajaya had an API of 158.
In Selangor, Shah Alam recorded an API of 157.
50 other areas around the country recorded API readings at the moderate level, while 2 areas, Kangar, Perlis and Langkawi, Kedah recorded good readings.
API readings of between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are categorised as hazardous.
API data is released hourly based on readings from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
