Abdul Rahim steps down as Melaka Bersatu chief, five divisions in state dissolved

MELAKA: Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik has announced he is stepping down as Melaka Bersatu chief and that five out of six divisions in the state have been dissolved with immediate effect.

He said the decision was made after a comprehensive review of developments at the party and after taking into account the voices and aspirations of grassroots members.

He said the committees of all the party's wings in the state, as well as all branches under their respective divisions were dissolved unanimously, voluntarily and without any coercion.

"The decision was made after considering the fact that confidence in the party's leadership has eroded," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 24).

The former Melaka Chief Minister said the five divisions are Masjid Tanah, Hang Tuah Jaya, Tangga Batu, Alor Gajah and Jasin.

The sixth division is Kota Melaka.

Abdul Rahim also congratulated Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar on his appointment as Perikatan Nasional chairman.

"We hope the new leadership will inject fresh impetus, strengthen unity among component parties and steer Perikatan towards a more structured and progressive coalition.

"We hope that under his leadership, Perikatan and the Opposition bloc will emerge more dynamic, strategic and be recognised by the people as a credible and formidable alternative in the nation's political landscape," he added.
