DOSH launches probe into fatal cement truck accident at Penang Hospital

GEORGE TOWN: The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) has initiated an investigation into the fatal cement truck accident at the Penang Hospital construction site on Friday (Feb 6).

In a statement, the department confirmed it has received a report of the incident involving an Indonesian worker who died after the cement truck he was driving fell and overturned into the basement construction area while concrete supply works were being carried out.

“Two prohibition notices have been issued on the ready-mix concrete supply activities by the company involved, as well as on the use of the access route to the concrete batching plant until investigations are completed,” DOSH said on Sunday (Feb 7).

The department added that further investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident and that appropriate action would be taken under existing occupational safety and health laws.

“DOSH views every workplace accident seriously and will not hesitate to take legal action against employers who fail to comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994,” it said.
