GOMBAK: "You can run but you can never hide forever," says Datuk M. Kumar, issuing a warning to remnants of the Captain Praba gang.
The Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director said the police are still on the hunt for members of the gang, including its elusive leader. He said the remnants, including the mastermind, are believed to be overseas.
"Our investigations showed that they used illegal means to travel overseas. However, we are working with our counterparts in other countries to track them down and bring them to justice," he told reporters during a community policing programme at the Batu Caves Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple on Saturday (Jan 31).
He added that police are working to dismantle the gang thoroughly following a spate of violent crimes. It was previously reported that three gang members were extradited from Mumbai, India, and charged at the Sepang Sessions Court on Jan 28. The trio arrived at KLIA under tight security escort by Malaysian police officers.
The suspects, who are on Interpol’s Red Notice list, were detained by Indian authorities at the Mumbai airport after turning violent upon arrival on Jan 25. Investigations revealed the trio had earlier been deported from Britain after immigration officers at Manchester Airport denied them entry. Under international protocol, they were returned to their last port of departure in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Comm Kumar said police are intensifying efforts to strengthen ties with the community.
"As part of ongoing community policing initiatives, we aim to move beyond our traditional enforcement role and be actively involved in society by engaging with the public," he said.
The initiative underscores unity and togetherness, with officers carrying out engagement activities alongside their daily duties.
"We aim to forge closer ties with the public. After all, as our motto says, 'The police and public are inseparable'," he said.
