Bukit Aman to implement highest security for returning Captain Praba gang members, says source

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is expected to impose the highest level of security when three Malaysian criminals detained in Mumbai, India, arrive back in the country.

Sources said the three suspects are expected to be flown home in the near future, following the completion of extradition procedures.

It is understood that about 10 police officers and personnel will escort the suspects once the extradition process is finalised.

The trio, who are currently being held under "high-level security surveillance" in a special holding room at the airport in Mumbai, will be handed over to the police before being brought back to Malaysia.

"If there are no obstacles, they are expected to be brought home in the near future, subject to the situation in Mumbai.

"Upon arrival at KL International Airport (KLIA), all three will be placed under strict police escort before being taken to the Sepang district police headquarters.

"After documentation procedures are completed, they will be brought to the magistrate's court for further action," the source said on Tuesday (Jan 27).

The source said the highest level of security was deemed necessary due to the potential risks and threats linked to the detention of the suspects, who are believed to be senior leaders or key members of the Captain Praba gang.

Besides having a large following among gang members, the suspects are also believed to have enemies who harbour grudges against them over crimes committed in the past, raising concerns over possible security threats.
