A dog was targeted and killed with a firecracker, says Ipoh SPCA head

IPOH: A dog has reportedly been killed after a firecracker was thrown at it in a village in Pusing.

Ipoh Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) president Ricky Soong said the incident allegedly occurred at Taman Pusing Baru at about 5pm on Wednesday (Jan 28).

He said he learned of the incident at 12.30pm on Thursday (Jan 29) through a video shared on Facebook by Malaysia Protect Stray Animal/Animal Alliance, which he added shows a man targeting the dog with the firecracker.

"I took several screenshots from the video as evidence.

"I lodged a police report, and the matter has been reported to the Perak Veterinary Services Department (DVS) for further action," he said here on Friday (Jan 30).

Soong said the dog, a female, is believed to have an owner.

When contacted, Perak DVS’s Veterinary officer Dr.R.Pravina Vathi said the dog's carcass  has been exhumed from the burial site.

“The carcass will be sent to the Veterinary Research Institute lab for a postmortem examination,” she said.
