IPOH: An unemployed man has been charged at the Sessions Court here with voluntarily causing hurt to a woman during a robbery at her home in Taman Batu Gajah Perdana.
Lee Koon Yew, 49, pleaded not guilty after the charge under Section 394 of the Malaysian Penal Code was read before Norhayati Mohamad Yunus on Friday (Aug 14).
The accused was said to have committed the offence against one Fatin Fazira Ahmad Fauzi, 26, at about 11.40am on Aug 8.
If convicted, the accused could be jailed up to 20 years and fined or whipped.
Deputy Public Prosecutor M. Raveena said the court could allow bail of about RM20,000, even though it is an unbailable offence.
"The victim was carrying her two-month-old child during the incident.
"She was forced to receive treatment at a hospital," she said.
Lawyer Dhirren Amaresha, representing Lee, requested a bail of not more than RM10,000 because the accused is a single father of two and has high blood pressure.
Norhayati set bail at RM8,000 with one surety.
She also ordered the accused to surrender his passport to the court and to report himself to the nearest police station every month.
The accused was also instructed not to disturb the witnesses until the case is completed.
The court then set Sept 23 for case mention.
