SENAI: Smartt Malaysia aims to position itself as a key player in the global semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem by establishing its manufacturing facility in Johor.

Smartt Precision Mfg Sdn Bhd general manager Ng Kok Aun said Johor is rapidly emerging as one of the most important semiconductor hubs in the region.

“Our investment in Johor comes with a much larger ambition, which is to establish a world-class ecosystem that supports global Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs),’’ he said at the opening of Smartt Malaysia manufacturing plant in Senai, Johor.

Ng said the opening of Smartt Malaysia Mega Campus, reflected its long-term commitment to the country, its customers, suppliers and employees.

He said the facility represented the company’s commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s and Johor’s as a regional semiconductor hub.

Ng added the project will create hundreds of skilled jobs, support local businesses and strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem.

He said that by partnering with universities and industry bodies, they will develop local talent and advance Malaysia’s long-term industrial and technological capabilities.

“As a global leader in precision engineering, Smartt builds the high-precision components and complex assemblies that power today’s most demanding technology companies,’’ said Ng.

He said this is achieved through the company's engineering excellence, advanced manufacturing, continuous innovation, uncompromising quality and a resilient supply chain.

Ng said Johor provides an ideal platform for the company’s long-term growth and investment plans with its strategic location, robust infrastructure, skilled workforce and strong connectivity to the global market.

“Johor provides an ideal platform for the company’s long-term growth and investment plans with its strategic location, robust infrastructure, skilled workforce and strong connectivity to the global market,” says Ng.

“Our vision extends beyond traditional manufacturing,’’ he said, adding that the company is actively driving the transformation towards smart manufacturing through automation, digitalisation and Flexible Intelligent Units (FIU).

Ng said by integrating advanced automation, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and flexible manufacturing, the company has created a smart factory that delivers greater efficiency, agility and quality to meet evolving customer needs.

Invest Johor Investment Facilitation executive director Mohamad Salleh Mohamad Yusof said Johor’s strategic location and strong infrastructure make it a top destination for high-value industries like semiconductor and advanced manufacturing.

“The investment by Smartt Malaysia will drive technology transfer, upgrade local skills and create high-quality jobs, helping build a resilient and sustainable tech ecosystem in the country,’’ he said.

Mohamad Salleh said Johor played a vital role in the global semiconductor value chain, particularly through its electrical and electronics, precision engineering and advanced manufacturing sectors.

He said the development of Smartt Malaysia aligns seamlessly with the goals of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), by creating a robust regional investment platform for advanced industries.

“By leveraging the unique strengths of both economies, the JS-SEZ is expected to accelerate investments in semiconductor manufacturing, advanced electronics, automation, digital technologies, logistics and innovation-driven fields,’’ said Mohamad Salleh.

He said Invest Johor actively collaborates with the Federal Government, Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA) and all relevant stakeholders to drive investments, enhance industrial linkages and firmly position Johor as the premier destination for high-value, technology-driven industries.
