Umno sends AGM invites to Barisan component parties

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has sent out invitations to Barisan Nasional components to attend the party’s annual general assembly set to be held next week.

Among those invited are MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon and party secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon.

When asked if he would be attending, Dr Wee said “I will see you there next week”.

The Umno Annual General Assembly is set to be held from Jan 14 to 17 at the World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur.

This comes amidst recent tensions over relations between MCA and its Barisan Nasional ally Umno.

Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail recently said that the presence of DAP state executive councillors in the Pahang government has made administrative matters easier compared with when MCA was previously part of the coalition.

MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon hit back, saying that the comparison drew a negative perception of MCA.

“To be fair, Wan Rosdy must clarify which aspects he is talking about. This is important so that MCA Pahang will clearly understand.

“As a Barisan component member, MCA Pahang continues working hard for the people and to regain their trust, especially the Chinese community, while defending the party’s moderate ideology,” said Chong, who is also MCA Pahang chairman.
