LUMUT: Any proposal for Umno to withdraw from the unity government must be submitted to the party's supreme council, says Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
The Umno supreme council member said the matter was in line with the party's structure and decision-making process, which prioritises discussions at highest levels.
Mohamad Akmal, at a special Umno Youth convention on Saturday (Jan 3), had urged the party to withdraw from the unity government and revive the partnership with PAS.
"That is just the Youth wing's view. As Youth chief (Datuk Dr Mohamad Akmal Saleh) said yesterday, whatever the views are, they will be submitted to the supreme council," Sinar Harian reported him as saying after a Back to School Programme with the Higher Education Minister at Dewan Merdeka in Manjung here on Sunday (Jan 4).
Zambry, who is also Barisan Nasional secretary-general, said that the Umno Youth leadership understands that any decision about the party's direction must be made with maturity.
"Despite the insistence, as we heard, brother Mohamad Akmal is aware that whatever the final decision is, it will be submitted to the Umno supreme council," he said.
