KUALA LUMPUR: A study conducted among Umno members shows that 62% cannot accept the working relationship between Umno and DAP in the Madani government.
UITM lecturer and Ilham Centre fellow researcher Mujibu Abd Musi presented findings of the study he conducted, which involved 1,800 respondents, to about 1,500 Umno Youth members at a special convention on Saturday (Jan 3).
Mujibu said although the Madani government is stable because it has enough seats in Parliament, Umno has paid for it by gradually losing the support of its own members, especially in the rural areas.
"Growing dissatisfaction within the Malay electorate is emerging as a serious concern, particularly for Umno and Barisan Nasional.
"Data shows that Malay political support is increasingly fragmented, with the majority now shifting toward Perikatan Nasional.
"Umno's share of Malay support has reportedly fallen to below 25%, marking a significant and gradual erosion of its traditional base.
"A major source of discontent is Umno's cooperation with DAP which remains highly unpopular among Malay voters.
"Survey findings show that only 15% of Malay respondents are willing to accept Umno-DAP cooperation, while 62% strongly reject it,
"Voting patterns further reveal a clear urban-rural divide. Urban voters are generally more receptive to the Pakatan-Barisan cooperation, while approximately 60% of Umno's rural base opposes the alliance," said Mujibu.
