CHUKAI: The police are investigating the owner of the Facebook account 'Ahmad Mu'min' following a post suspected of containing elements of sedition and insulting the royal institution, the government, and the police.
Kemaman OCPD Supt Mohd Razi Mohd Rosli said the investigation under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 is being conducted after a report was received from a 29-year-old man at 11.14am on Saturday (Aug 15).
"The police will investigate the identity of the account owner and subsequently conduct an investigation according to legal procedures," he said in a statement on Saturday.
He said the latest post from the Facebook account owner, among other things, alleged that the police kicked a motorcyclist during a joint operation at Pantai Penunjuk, Kijal, near here, at 6.30pm on Friday (Aug 14).
"The allegation that the police kicked one of the motorcyclists is baseless, and this can be seen through the recording that went viral on social media.
"The statement was malicious and the public is urged to verify the content of any post that has the potential to incite hatred against the police," he said.
Supt Mohd Razi added that the operation was carried out following public complaints regarding illegal racing activities that disturb public order. — Bernama
