Umno sees surge in online membership among youths after Negri polls

PETALING JAYA: Umno has reported an encouraging surge in online membership registrations following the Negri Sembilan state election, with youths aged between 18 and 25 making up the bulk of new applicants.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the response to the party's online membership drive had been "extraordinary" since the state polls.

He said 54% or 10,080 of the 18,650 new membership applications were for the party's Youth wing.

The rest were 22% or 4,156 for ordinary membership, 12% or 2,288 for its Puteri wing, while 11% or 2,126 were for Umno Wanita.

"This is an extraordinary response we received for Umno membership registrations soon after the Negeri Sembilan state election. Most of them are youths aged between 18 and 25," he said in a Facebook post.

He invited those interested in joining the party to register through Umno's online membership portal.

Barisan Nasional's strong performance in the Negeri Sembilan election returned power in the state to the coalition.
