IMAGINE waking up to a bedroom that has automatically adjusted its temperature based on insights from your wellness wearable, while an AI companion coordinates with your household humanoid robot to prepare breakfast – all before you even get out of bed.

This is the vision behind i-Ris, the AI companion introduced in the recent launch of the AI Living @ i-City development in Shah Alam on Oct 20.

Developed with Nvidia Ace technology and powered by Nvidia accelerated computing, i-Ris will have a lifelike digital human interface, enabling residents to interact with their homes in a more natural and engaging way.

According to i-City, its distinguishing feature is the ability to coordinate different technologies through a common intelligence – from domestic robots and personalised wellness services to connected-home appliances and household systems.

The AI companion will be introduced alongside its namesake, the i-Ris residential tower at AI Living @ i-City, a planned 500-unit development targeted for completion in 2030.

Together, the i-Ris AI companion and tower represent the first residential expression of AI Living @ i-City, bringing the township’s AI and robotics vision into everyday homes.

The development’s layouts, circulation paths, service areas and infrastructure are even being planned from the ground up to accommodate domestic humanoid robotics alongside the needs of residents.

The i-Ris AI companion is also planned for deployment at the 200-unit Windern Residences within the township, demonstrating its potential adaptability across different residential developments within i-City.

WHAT began as an ambitious vision for artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics is progressively taking shape as i-City brings together international technology partners, residential development plans and urban infrastructure to deliver its AI Living @ i-City development by 2030.

The journey began with the launch of the AI World Experience Centre (AIWEC) in January, officiated by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Chang Lih Kang.

The centre established i-City’s commitment to bringing robotics and AI beyond exhibitions and into practical everyday applications.

The initiative comes as Malaysia accelerates its ambition to become an AI Nation by 2030.

At the launch of AI Malaysia in July, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasised the importance of extending AI adoption beyond government institutions to the wider population, calling for the “democratisation of access to AI” and greater participation from the private sector.

This national direction is also reflected in the 13th Malaysia Plan, which identifies AI as a driver of economic transformation and promotes technology commercialisation and wider adoption.

The emphasis on access and affordability echoes the Digital Ministry’s recent statements.

Earlier this year, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the aim was for AI and next-gen technology to be “not just accessible, but actively adopted to deliver real economic benefits”.

After the announcement of Budget 2027, his Ministry said it stood ready to mobilise everyday capability to accelerate the nation’s digital transformation.

Against this backdrop, the launch of AI Living @ i-City and i-Ris represents a private-sector initiative to translate these ambitions into practical residential applications, bringing AI assistance, robotics and wellness technologies into everyday living.

Tech-led ecosystem

A key part of i-City’s strategy has been sourcing technology partners with complementary expertise, rather than attempting to develop every component independently.

The ecosystem includes Nvidia-related AI technologies, AgiBot Innovation’s robotics capabilities, and Garmin Malaysia’s wearable wellness technology.

Each brings established capabilities that i-City intends to integrate into a unified residential experience.

Beyond the home, i-City’s engagement with Savills Malaysia to develop and operate its retail entertainment hub, CityWalk, supports the wider ambition of creating an AI- and robotics-enabled urban centre that combines residential living with complementary retail, lifestyle and service offerings.

Together, these collaborations aim to provide the building blocks for moving AI Living @ i-City from concept towards commercial implementation.

Roadmap to 2030

With the technology ecosystem taking shape, i-City’s focus is shifting from identifying partners to developing residential applications.

Immediate priorities include incorporating AI and robotics requirements into building design, developing the i-Ris AI companion experience and preparing a showroom to demonstrate how the various technologies are intended to work together.

With the residential development targeted for completion in 2030, the company is adopting a phased approach that allows the integration of new technologies as AI and robotics capabilities evolve.

Savills Malaysia group managing director Datuk Paul Khong said AI Living now introduces a new dimension where intelligent services and robotics capabilities are brought to life in new homes and are consistently upgraded.

“This creates a new class of living residential properties, where buyers live beyond just the physical buildings to the wider ecosystem of services powered by AI that supports their next-gen lifestyle.”
