Family, friends, MCA leaders gather to pay respects to Lee
GEORGE TOWN: Family members, friends and party colleagues gathered to pay their last respects to Lee Kee Hiong, the mother of MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.
The funeral rites began at about 9.30am yesterday at the home of Dr Mah’s brother in Tanjung Bungah, where family members performed Taoist prayers and rituals.
The cortege then proceeded to the family’s hometown of Sitiawan, Perak, where Lee was laid to rest at the Segari Five Villages Chinese Cemetery.
Dr Mah said his 82-year-old mother, who died on Saturday, had suffered severe memory loss in recent years.
He expressed gratitude to his two younger brothers for their dedication and sacrifices in caring for their mother, particularly as his work commitments often kept him occupied.
He said his mother’s teachings and example had profoundly shaped him and his five siblings, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dr Mah also thanked friends and relatives from across the country for their condolences, attendance at the wake and support during the family’s bereavement.
Among those present before the funeral procession were MCA leaders led by party vice-president and Penang chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng, and Perak deputy chairman Datuk Ho Cheng Wang.
On Monday, party secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon, representing president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, led several party leaders in paying their last respects at the wake.
Dr Wee had initially planned to attend but was unable to do so because of flight delays caused by heavy rain in Kuala Lumpur.
Condolence wreaths were also sent by political leaders, including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad also conveyed his condolences to Dr Mah and his family.
