A MOTHER from Rompin gave birth to Pahang’s first baby of 2026, Utusan Malaysia reported.

Zawiah Hussin, 39, from Muadzam Shah, welcomed her baby girl at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan at 12.20am on Jan 1.

Delighted by the arrival of her fifth child, Zawiah said she did not expect to be the first mother in the state to deliver a baby in the new year.

“I am grateful because the process was very smooth and the baby is healthy,” Zawiah said.

State Health director Dr Saiful Azlan Sharif said a total of 15 babies were born at hospitals across Pahang as of noon on Jan 1.

> Harian Metro reported that a mother had expressed her gratitude to Good Samaritans who helped raise funds for her nine-year-old son’s liver transplant.

Syahira Sarbini, 33, said the required RM180,000 had been successfully raised.

She said the surgery for her eldest child, Anaqi Mikhael Mohamad Sharafi, would be performed at Renji Hospital in Shanghai, China.

Her sister-in-law, Siti Saleha Mokhtar, 41, would be the liver donor, she added.

Syahira said Anaqi Mikhael’s surgery was vital as his health condition had not improved, as he remained dependent on oxygen support and experienced frequent fatigue.

“Initially, he was afraid of undergoing the surgery.

“But we encouraged him until he understood the importance of the operation,” she added.
