THE family of a 63-year-old man was in the midst of preparing the final rites for his burial, only to find out that he was walking around their village, very much alive.

Identified only as Maruthamuthu, he had earlier fainted while he was out on a walk, Makkal Osai reported.

He was then admitted to a public hospital in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

A few days later, the hospital contacted his son Kalidass, saying his father had died and that the body would be sent to the family.

As they were making preparations to bury the remains, including having dug a grave, the family was contacted by relatives with news that they had found Maruthamuthu out and about in their village.

The family members were happy to have their father back but were furious over what had transpired.
