PETALING JAYA: Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo has called on the Attorney General to explain the eight-month delay in prosecuting those responsible for the fatal shooting of three men in Durian Tunggal.
He questioned the delay, noting that police had reclassified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code in December.
“No definitive legal action or arrests had been made since the deaths of G. Logeswaran, M. Puspanathan and M. Puvaneswaran on Nov 24 last year.
“Police do not reclassify cases, especially to serious capital offences such as homicide, unless there is a solid evidential basis to do so,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 7).
Gobind said the existence of an audio recording and post-mortem reports should further assist investigations and strengthen the case.
He warned that prolonged delays could undermine the prosecution, as witness recollections may fade, physical evidence could deteriorate and procedural gaps may emerge over time.
“The Attorney General, as the custodian of justice, is duty-bound to act swiftly and decisively where the evidence points to a criminal offence. Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done,” he said.
Gobind urged the Attorney General to take immediate action, saying the victims’ families had waited eight months for justice while public confidence in the criminal justice system was at stake.
He also said that he will personally raise this issue at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday to ensure that accountability and the rule of law are upheld.
