NS chess star bags gold for state

A PUPIL from Seremban earned her state its first national-level gold medal in chess in 35 years, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Miyara Cruise Davidson from King’s International School in Seremban 2, achieved the feat at a national chess competition for schools held in Miri recently.

She won the gold medal in the Under-12 category in the tournament hosted by Majlis Sukan Sekolah-Sekolah Malaysia (MSSM).

Her win earned Negri Sembilan its first gold medal at the national level in more than three decades.

Miyara is no stranger to success in chess, winning three bronze medals in the 9th East Asia Youth Chess Competition in China in 2025.

She also represented the country in the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Cadet chess championship held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and the 28th Commonwealth Chess Championship in 2025.

Miyara qualified to represent Malaysia in international events after winning the Under-12 gold medal at the 2025 national competition.
