MIC’s loyalty to BN ‘clear, firm, forward-looking’, says Zambry

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) has described the MIC central working committee’s decision to reaffirm its commitment to the coalition as a “clear, firm and forward-looking” move that strengthens BN’s foundation amid a fragmented political landscape.

BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said MIC’s decision to remain in BN was not merely a reaction to current political dynamics, but reflected the coalition’s deep-rooted history dating back to the Perikatan era (1955–1973) and its consolidation under BN since 1974.

“This is a principled stand anchored in history, trust and shared responsibility. BN has endured numerous challenges – from racial tensions and political pressures to shifting national dynamics – yet it remains resilient because of its core values,” he said.

Zambry said the decision was driven by strong and rational considerations, particularly the need to ensure political stability and continuity at a time when the national landscape is increasingly polarised.

“Malaysia needs a stable and experienced platform. BN has a proven track record of governing in an inclusive and pragmatic manner, and remains a relevant vehicle for the people,” he added.

He said BN’s long-standing model of multiracial cooperation has been a key pillar in preserving social harmony in Malaysia’s diverse society, describing the coalition as more than just an alliance of parties but a time-tested framework of inter-communal cooperation.

Zambry noted that BN is undergoing internal renewal, including organisational strengthening and a recalibration of its approach to better meet current public expectations.

“BN is not static. It is evolving, reforming and adapting to remain responsive and relevant,” he said.

He added that the MIC CWC’s move sends a strong signal against divisive politics, reaffirming that unity and solidarity should not be sacrificed for short-term gains.

Efforts to strengthen BN would continue, he said, expressing confidence that any attempts to weaken or fracture the coalition could be addressed through internal cohesion and prudent leadership.

“This is not just about today’s politics, but about the future – ensuring that unity, moderation and responsibility continue to shape a stable and prosperous Malaysia,” he said.
