MELAKA: Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang confirms that talks on cooperation between Perikatan Nasional and Barisan Nasional for the Melaka state election began on Friday (Aug 22), Sinar Harian reports.
The PAS president told the Malay language daily that the discussions involved appointed representatives from the central leadership of both parties.
He said that although the negotiations were still at an early stage, developments so far had been positive.
“Preparations at party level have begun and are under way. These discussions will continue to the next stage,” he said on Sunday (Aug 23).
Also present were Perikatan chairman and PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, as well as Melaka PAS commissioner Zulkifli Ismail.
Asked about the possibility of co-operation between Barisan and Perikatan being realised, Abdul Hadi said it was still too early to determine.
“It is still at an early stage, but even at this early stage, it has shown very good progress.
“The progress of the discussions, praise be to God, is very positive. We are taking inspiration from what succeeded in Johor and Negri Sembilan,” he said.
On Saturday (Aug 22), Perikatan chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said discussions between Perikatan and Barisan were close to reaching an understanding on working together for the upcoming Melaka state election.
Takiyuddin said the initial discussions between the two sides had received positive feedback from Barisan, but the form of cooperation, including the allocation of state seats, had yet to be finalised.
