Cabinet feedback sought on energy security, work-from-home proposal

KUCHING: Cabinet members have been asked to provide feedback to the Federal Government on measures to strengthen the nation’s energy security and minimise any burden on the public, says Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

The Women, Family and Community Development Minister said this followed the National Economic Action Council (NEAC) meeting on Wednesday (March 25).

"The Government has met on this matter and requested our feedback. Whatever decisions are made will take into account our suggestions as Cabinet members, as well as the state of the nation’s economy," she told reporters during an Aidilfitri visit to Kampung Tabuan Lot here on Thursday (March 26).

Nancy said the feedback covered matters such as the work-from-home proposal for civil servants and fuel subsidies.

She added that it was important to balance the people’s needs with the measures the Government can take to address the situation.

"Our focus is on mitigating any difficulties the people may face. We will do our best to ensure that the people are not badly affected, especially the working population," she said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who chaired the NEAC meeting, said the Government was intensifying efforts to strengthen energy security, including diversifying supply sources and exploring alternative routes to reduce dependence on the high-risk Strait of Hormuz.

He also said intervention measures would be implemented immediately to safeguard Malaysia’s economic resilience.

The meeting discussed current geopolitical developments, global economic pressures and the security implications arising from the conflict in the Middle East.
