Woman robbed in her sleep at Sandakan home

KOTA KINABALU: A middle-aged woman was robbed in her sleep while she was home alone in Sandakan recently.

In the March 20 incident, the victim was asleep when she was attacked by an unknown man who had broken into her house through a window at Mile 7 late Friday (March 20), said Sandakan OCPD Supt Ramasamy Kuppan.

“The suspect is believed to have fled with items worth about RM20,000, including a handphone and jewellery,” he said in a statement on Thursday (March 26).

He said police received a report about the incident at around 1.30am on March 21.

Following the report, police conducted several operations and nabbed three suspects, including the main suspect, who is an undocumented man, on March 24 and March 25, said Supt Ramasamy.

They also arrested a pawnshop operator and another person to facilitate investigations into the case, he said, adding that it is being investigated for robbery and under several other Acts.

He urged the public to be mindful of their safety and to report any criminal activity to the police to assist investigations.

Supt Ramasamy said they believe the main suspect is involved in other criminal cases as well, and that investigations are being carried out from various angles.
