Perlis Perikatan unrest a 'family matter' to be solved amicably, says Shahidan

ARAU: Perlis Perikatan Nasional was not officially informed about several state assemblymen withdrawing support for Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli and only found out about it from the media.

Its chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the issue should not be exaggerated to appear as if there is a crisis within the coalition.

He said the matter would be resolved amicably in a family spirit, without affecting the stability of the Perlis state administration.

"This is not a crisis, merely a difference of opinion. Calling it a crisis could weaken the party.

"This can be settled within the family – not fighting with each other," the Perlis PAS deputy chief said at a press conference after the Fawwaz Foundation Education Fund donation ceremony at the Kubang Gajah service centre here on Tuesday (Dec 23).

"Perikatan's approach is clear – any decision must be made by the party. Only then will it be conveyed to the state Ruler. At state level, we only provide the necessary information and await the decision from party headquarters," he said.

He also said any action made independently by elected representatives would be scrutinised and reviewed by the party.

Shahidan, who is also Arau MP, called on all parties to remain calm and resolve any differences in a respectful manner, without open conflict.

"We need to remain united because the people judge our strength through unity," he said.

It was previously reported that eight assemblymen, five from Bersatu and three from PAS, had submitted a statutory declarations to Perlis Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, stating they had lost confidence in Mohd Shukri's leadership.
