THE Federation of Malaysian School Bus Associations urged parents to verify bus operators in person before paying school transport fees or risk falling for a scam, China Press reported.
Its president Amali Munif Rahmat said he has received reports from parents who were duped by scammers advertising school bus services on social media.
The complaints involved parents from Damansara who lost between RM200 and RM300 each.
He said the parents had sought recommendations for school bus services through social media platforms and chat groups before being approached by individuals claiming to be bus operators.
“It was only after making payment that they realised these individuals were not legitimate operators and that they had been scammed. Make sure you see the driver and the school bus at the school,” he said, adding that payment should only be made after proper confirmation.
