MELAKA: The Melaka government remains focused on strengthening governance, boosting state revenue and improving service delivery even in the face of adversity, says Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

"Whatever polemics are stirred from outside, our focus remains unchanged as Melaka chooses to work for the people," the Melaka Chief Minister said on Wednesday (Dec 10).

He urged civil servants to adopt a tourism-centric mindset and avoid actions or controversies that could tarnish the state's reputation.

"We have worked very hard to build Melaka's tourism sector and position the state as a top global destination. We don't wish to see this destroyed," he said.

Touching on the Melaka Budget 2026, he said it reflected the state government's commitment to ensure every ringgit spent delivers the highest benefit to the people.

"This budget is not merely a spending document but a promise that Melaka's development must be focused, inclusive and sustainable," he said.

He added that all planning had been structured to ensure benefits reach every layer of society.

He also said that the state could not ignore global challenges, including a slowing world economy, climate change and technological shifts.

"However, these challenges are not an excuse. We must spend prudently and not in a way that restrains development," he said.
