KUALA LUMPUR: Three ministers have begun their second term as senators after being sworn in at the Dewan Negara on Wednesday (Dec 3).

The ministers are Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Home Minister; Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs); and Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, Higher Education Minister.

They took their oath before Senate President Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah.

Saifuddin was the first to be sworn in, followed by Zambry and Mohd Na’im. The swearing-in ceremony, which began at 10.05am, was the first order of business in the Dewan Negara on Wednesday.

The three were originally appointed as senators on Dec 3, 2022, in line with the formation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s cabinet after the 15th General Election.

Their reappointment confirms that they will continue in their current ministerial roles.

The ceremony took place amid cabinet vacancies following the resignation of three ministers and the end of the senatorship of Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had earlier stated that there may not be a cabinet reshuffle but that vacancies would be filled.
