Nur Jazlan appointed Dewan Negara Deputy Speaker for a second term

KUALA LUMPUR: Senator Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed has been reappointed as Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Negara for a second term.

The sole nomination for the position was submitted by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir on behalf of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim before the question and answer session in the Dewan Negara on Monday (July 20).

Earlier, Nur Jazlan and Mussodak Ahmad were reappointed senators for a second term and sworn in before Speaker Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah.

Nur Jazlan's reappointment by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, is for a period of three years, from June 15 this year to June 14, 2029.

Mussodak's reappointment by the Kedah state assembly is also for three years, from March 20 this year to March 19, 2029.

Nur Jazlan, 60, who is also a member of the Umno supreme council and Pulai Umno division chief, earlier served as Deputy Speaker since June 2023.

He also held the position of deputy home minister from 2015 to 2018 and was the MP for Pulai from 2004 to 2018.

Mussodak, the Kedah PAS secretary, previously contested the Bayu and Guar Chempedak state seats.

He was first appointed a senator representing Kedah in March 2023.

According to the parliamentary calendar, the Dewan Negara sitting for the Second Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 15th Parliament will last for 10 days from today to Aug 4. – Bernama
