Taking sibling rivalry to a new level

Chaya and Ma’mun will fight for the Kukusan seat.

KOTA KINABALU: It’s brother vs sister in two Sabah seats. And it’s two brothers against each other in one.

Edna and Shone Majimbun as well as Chaya and Ma’mun Sulaiman have taken their sibling rivalry to a new level, as they will be contesting against one another in the polls.

Edna and Shone are candidates for Inanam while Chaya and Ma’mun are fighting for the Kukusan seat.

Shone, 45, a businessman is an Independent candidate under Black Wave while his 47-year-old sister, a former Kota Kinabalu district native court chief, is with Warisan.

The two are children of former Sepanggar MP Datuk Eric Majimbun.

In a Facebook post, Shone wrote: “I offer myself and my full commitment to serve us, the people of Inanam. My main focus is simple, from the People, for the People!”

On his sister’s candidacy, Shone said: “My sister (is also) contesting in Inanam. I’d be lying if I say it doesn’t make me sad or conflicted, but I respect her decision.”

Speaking about contesting against her younger brother, Chaya, 63, said family ties did not mean that they have to put aside their political beliefs and struggles.

“We regard the state polls as a healthy and democratic contest for the people to evaluate who can best represent them,” she said.

Chaya is a Barisan Nasional candidate while Ma’mun is representing Warisan.

In Petagas, incumbent assemblyman Datuk Awang Ahmad Sah Sahari is going as independent against his younger brother former Putatan MP Awang Husaini who is contesting on a Pakatan Harapan ticket.
