Sabah polls: Faints and flubs mark nominations

KOTA KINABALU: Elections in Sabah never lack drama, and this nomination day was no different.

One candidate fainted while filing his papers and had to be helped by rival candidates.

Elsewhere, two others who had fought to become candidates turned up late and could not send in their nominations.

Parti Kebangsaan Sabah candidate Dusi Gingging left everyone shocked when he collapsed at Dewan Seri Sulaman, where he was filing his papers for the Kiulu seat.

In the true spirit of brotherhood, Barisan Nasional’s Sulaman candidate Dr Shahnon Rizal Thaijuddin and Warisan’s candidate Lee Han Kyun rushed to assist Dusi before medical personnel arrived.

Dusi will still be on the list of candidates. A representative submitted his nomination papers on his behalf while he was taken to Tuaran Hospital in an ambulance.

Dusi is one of eight contenders for Kiulu, a seat in the Tuaran parliamentary constituency.

The other three seats are Pantai Dalit, Sulaman and Tamparuli.

There was also drama at the nomination centre for Sulabayan and Bugaya.

Two candidates from Parti Damai Sabah were late to file their candidacy.

Abdul Hata Abdul Hala could not submit his form for Sulabayan as he arrived at the nomination centre just after 10am.

The party’s other candidate Ahmad Daud Awang was also not able to hand over his nomination.

Ahmad Daud, who was supposed to contest in Bugaya, was late for the nomination process.

Candidates are to submit their nomination between 9am and 10am on nomination day.
