KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will provide eight additional KTM Komuter Utara train services for the Butterworth and Padang Besar route from Thursday until Monday (Aug 27-31) in conjunction with the school holidays and National Day celebrations.
In a statement on Monday (Aug 24), KTMB announced that the additional services through the implementation of the KTM Komuter Northern Sector Special Timetable were made to meet the expected increase in passenger demand during the period.
It added that the move would increase the total number of services on the Butterworth-Padang Besar-Butterworth route from 38 to 46 services per day.
KTMB expects the number of passengers to increase by 30 per cent compared with normal days through the initiative, with the additional services able to accommodate up to 5,000 extra passengers a day, or a total of 25,000 passengers throughout the implementation period.
"Of the total, four additional services will be provided for the Padang Besar-Butterworth route, taking the total to 23 services per day compared with 19 services under the regular timetable.
"Four additional services will also be provided for the Butterworth-Padang Besar route, bringing the total to 23 services per day,” it added.
The additional services are among KTMB’s proactive measures to increase public transport capacity, in addition to providing more travel time options for passengers, especially for journeys between Penang, Kedah and Perlis during the school holidays and National Day celebrations.
The public is advised to plan their journeys in advance and refer to the KTM Komuter Northern Sector Special Timetable, which will be in effect throughout the period.
