Namewee probe: Cops await DPP's orders on next course of action

KUALA LUMPUR: The police are still awaiting further instructions from the deputy public prosecutor’s office (DPP) on the murder investigations involving local rapper Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee.

“The investigation paper was referred to the DPP on Wednesday (Nov 12) and we are still awaiting further instructions,” Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said when contacted.

The second remand period for the rapper is expected to end on Thursday (Nov 13).

The police had reclassified the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yun Hsi as murder after the initial sudden death classification.

Investigations revealed that Namewee was the last person seen with the 31-year-old victim in a room at a hotel here at about 1.40pm on Oct 22.

He was later arrested for alleged possession and use of drugs but was released after pleading not guilty to the drug-related charges at the Jalan Duta Court on Oct 24.
