‘They had a special relationship’

KUALA LUMPUR: The relationship between local rapper Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, and Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yun Hsi was “special”, according to police.

“They are friends and they have other relationships that I will not get into.

“I do not need to reveal the full extent but it is a ‘special’ relationship,” Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said when met after a Deepavali celebration at the police contingent headquarters here yesterday.

He added that there had been attempts to claim her body but they were denied as their identities and connection to the victim were unverified. Her immediate family has yet to claim the body.

He also said that the police were still awaiting the toxicology report.

“We will determine our suggestions to the deputy public prosecutor in the near future,” he added.

The police had reclassified the death of Hsieh as murder after the initial sudden death classification. Investigations revealed that Namewee was the last person seen with the 31-year-old victim in a room at a hotel here on Oct 22. He was later arrested for alleged possession and use of drugs.

Namewee was charged in two Magistrate’s Courts in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 24 but was released after pleading not guilty to the charges.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, suspended policewoman Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar also known as “Inspector Sheila” will be charged in court soon.

“The investigation paper has been completed and we have referred to the deputy public prosecutor’s office on Monday. We are still awaiting further instructions,” he said.
