KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded statements from an Immigration officer and a woman following a viral social media post alleging poor service at the UTC Pudu Sentral Immigration office.
Acting Dang Wangi OCPD Supt Nuzulan Mohd Din said the officer was interviewed on Aug 23, while the woman’s statement was recorded the following day.
"We are currently securing CCTV footage of the alleged incident," Supt Nuzulan said when contacted on Wednesday (Aug 26). "The case is being investigated under Sections 379 and 504 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998."
The police investigation follows a formal report lodged by the Immigration Department itself. Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban stated on Tuesday (Aug 25) that an internal review—which included analysing CCTV footage, duty records, and staff statements—found key claims in the social media post to be inaccurate.
"Several allegations were inconsistent with our internal findings," Zakaria said, adding that the police report was filed to establish the facts transparently.
While emphasising that the department respects the public's right to share feedback and raise concerns, Zakaria urged the public to share accurate information to prevent misunderstandings. He reaffirmed the department's commitment to addressing complaints professionally and maintaining high standards of public service.
