PETALING JAYA: A pregnant woman managed to escape a fire that gutted a terrace house in Taman Tenaga, Kajang, early Wednesday morning (Aug 26).
The victim suffered breathing difficulties following her escape and received emergency medical treatment at the scene.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said emergency services responded to a distress call at 12.23am. Firefighters from the Bangi and Kajang stations arrived at Jalan Tenaga 11 eight minutes later.
"The fire involved two single-storey terrace houses," Ashrul said in a statement. "The first home was about 60% destroyed, while the adjacent unit sustained minor damage of roughly 5%."
"The pregnant victim managed to flee the burning property on her own before experiencing respiratory distress. Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) personnel provided immediate medical assistance," he added.
Crews brought the blaze under control by 12.49 am. Six firefighters worked the scene, supported by a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT), a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), and an EMRS vehicle.
