Khaliq Mehtab resigns as Bersatu legal and constitutional bureau chairman

KEPALA BATAS: Former Bertam assemblyman Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq has resigned as the Bersatu legal and constitutional bureau chairman.

He thanked the leadership for appointing him to the party’s supreme council and expressed appreciation to party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for the trust placed in him.

“Throughout my tenure, I carried out my duties with integrity, sincerity and commitment to the party’s struggle,” he said.

“However, I acknowledge that my service on the Supreme Council was terminated as I did not fully support the President’s stance on several matters. I respect this decision,” he added.

“As an elected Supreme Council member, I believe the right to express differing views is part of the party’s democratic spirit,” he said.

Khaliq said a clear transition or succession plan should be implemented decisively, promptly and prudently to strengthen unity and chart the party’s future direction.

He said his view arose from love and responsibility for the party, not opposition to the leadership and added that future appointments to the Supreme Leadership Council should be based on capability, credibility and principle.

He said they should not merely create a line up of yes men.

“A strong party is built upon diversity of opinion and the courage to speak the truth,” he said.

He also thanked the party for the opportunity given.
