Homelessness, AG's powers among issues in Dewan Rakyat today

KUALA LUMPUR: The issue of homelessness in the capital and the separation of powers between the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor are among matters to be raised at the Dewan Rakyat sitting on Wednesday (Oct 29).

According to the Order Paper published on the Parliament website, Fong Kui Lun (PH-Bukit Bintang) asked the Prime Minister about the current number of homeless individuals in the capital and whether existing homeless transit centres are being fully utilised during the question-and-answer session beginning at 10am.

Fong will also inquire whether there is a need to expand or increase the number of such transit centres, including introducing training and skills development programmes to help the homeless become self-reliant.

During the same session, Lim Lip Eng (PH-Kepong) will ask the Prime Minister about the comparative models referred to by the government in separating the roles of the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor, and whether future appointments of the Attorney General will go through a related Parliamentary Special Select Committee (JKPK).

Also drawing attention is a question from Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (BN-Bera) to the Youth and Sports Minister regarding the ministry’s current stance on the previous government’s proposal to build at least one drag racing circuit in each state, in line with the current government’s support for the recent Himpunan RXZ Members gathering.

After the question session, the Dewan Rakyat sitting will continue with the ministerial winding-up session on the Supply Bill at the policy stage.

The Third Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 15th Parliament will run for 35 days until Dec 4. - Bernama
