Temporary power outage caused by lightning strike at Melaka power plant

PETALING JAYA: The temporary disruption of electricity supply in parts of Klang Valley and Johor on Wednesday (Oct 15) evening was caused by a lightning strike at the Edra Melaka Power Plant (EMPP).

Edra Power Holdings Sdn Bhd (Edra), which operates the EMPP, said the lightning strike took place during heavy rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday (Oct 15) afternoon.

According to Edra, immediate recovery efforts were initiated to safely restore power generation and EMPP has since resumed operations.

“Preventive steps are also being reviewed to further minimise the risk of future disruptions.

“Edra assures the public that every necessary measure is being taken to rectify the situation, safeguard system stability and restore reliable power supply at the earliest opportunity,” said Edra.
