IPOH: Efforts will be taken to ensure the safety of students in schools in Selangor, says Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
The Selangor Mentri Besar said the state would hold its executive council meeting and come up with ways to ensure the safety of all children in schools.
"Schools should be a safe place for our children, and the state will cooperate with the police, the Education Ministry and local communities to enhance the safety levels of all schools immediately.
"A few steps, including to ensure the safety of students and provide mental health support, will be decided soon," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 14).
"This matter will be a priority at the state executive meeting," he added.
A female student at a school in Bandar Utama was reported to have been stabbed to death by a 14-year-old male student on Tuesday at about 9.30am.
Police Inspector-General Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said investigations have started but have yet to determine the motive of the incident.
Amirudin said having spoken to Mohd Khalid earlier, the incident did not involve any racial elements.
He said the police would provide any updates on any development to the public.
"As a father who has a daughter, I cannot imagine the situation the victim's parents are going through and offer my condolences to them.
"I hope they will be given the strength and protection in facing this tragedy," he said.
