KAMPAR: The family of the three victims killed in a crash involving an Immigration Department lorry along Jalan Sultan Ismail on Wednesday (Aug 19) is calling for a transparent investigation to ensure justice for the victims.
Mohd Nadzri Razali, 69, the brother-in-law of Shaik Mohd Firdaus Shaikh Yahya, 53, said the family was still shocked and wanted every aspect of the case thoroughly investigated.
"I hope a full investigation will be carried out. We heard that the traffic light was red, but the vehicle still went through it... We want justice for the deceased," he told Sinar Harian.
Mohd Nadzri said the family also wanted the authorities to clarify all information related to the incident.
"I only ask for justice for my brother-in-law and his children," he said when met at his home in Taman Aman Phase 2, Mambang Di Awan here.
In the incident at about 1am, Shaik Mohd Firdaus and his daughters, Siti Nor Sazlin, 25, and Siti Darwisyah Auni, 12, were killed.
His wife, Norhayati Razali, 55, was seriously injured.
The family, who were on holiday in Kuala Lumpur, were reportedly waiting on the road divider near the Jalan Sultan Ismail traffic light junction when the accident occurred.
An Immigration Department lorry, believed to have been travelling from the direction of Wisma FGV, reportedly lost control and crashed into the victims and another vehicle that had stopped at the junction.
The three victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while Norhayati was taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.
Mohd Nadzri said the family learnt about the tragedy through a telephone call from another relative at about 7am.
"At first, we were told that only two family members had died, but later we found out that three people had been killed.
"When we heard it was three, we were shocked and saddened because we lost another family member only a few months ago," he said.
He said the family initially faced difficulty obtaining information as several of the victims' personal belongings were missing.
"Their wallets, car keys and bank cards could not be found. We are also unsure who the police contacted initially," he added.
Mohd Nadzri said Norhayati, who had been placed in the intensive care unit at Kuala Lumpur Hospital, had regained consciousness and was in stable condition.
He said the family hoped she could be transferred to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh or Teluk Intan Hospital for further treatment, subject to her condition and the hospital's approval.
Mohd Nadzri, who lives in the same neighbourhood as the family, said he last met Shaik Mohd Firdaus about two weeks ago when they returned to Teluk Bakong, Ayer Tawar, to clean the family graves.
"That was among our last memories. He asked about the location of the graves because he wanted to clean them. I never expected that to be our last meeting," he said.
