Cops hunting four suspects following cable theft attempt in JB


JOHOR BARU: Police are tracking four individuals for allegedly attempting to steal cables in Bandar Dato Onn on Tuesday (Aug 18).

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Azrul Hisham Mohd Shaffei said police received a report regarding the incident at 4.58pm on the same day.

“The report was lodged by a 20-year-old auxiliary police officer who is on duty at Bandar Dato at 4.58pm,’’ he said in a statement.

ACP Azrul Hisham said the four male suspects, believed to be locals, fled in a car when they saw the auxiliary police officer approaching them at the crime scene at 11.30am.

He added that a video clip showing the attempted cable theft subsequently went viral on TikTok.

“The case is being investigated under Section 379/511 of the Penal Code,’’ said ACP Azrul Hisham.

He urged members of the public with information on the case to contact the Johor Baru South police headquarters at 07-218 2323.

ACP Azrul Hisham also reminded the public to refrain from sharing the video on social media platforms to avoid speculation that could disrupt public harmony.
