School stabbing: School's administrators to be transferred pending probe outcome, says Education DG

PUTRAJAYA: Administrators of the school where the fatal stabbing incident took place will be temporarily transferred to the District Education Office pending the outcome of investigations, says Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad.

The Education director-general said the ministry would look into how to implement the transfers to ensure the school’s operations continue smoothly.

“We will take immediate action, as the investigation needs to be carried out promptly,” he said during a special press conference at the Education Ministry on Tuesday (Oct 14).

When asked if the transfer would involve the school principal or other administrative positions, he said the ministry would evaluate the situation first.

“We will assess which individuals are involved to ensure that both the ministry’s and the police’s investigations can proceed smoothly,” he said.

He also added that the motive behind the incident has yet to be determined as the police were conducting investigations.

Earlier on Tuesday (Oct 14), a female student from a school in Bandar Utama died after she was allegedly stabbed by a male student.

The incident is believed to have taken place at around 9.30am, after the boy reportedly brought a sharp weapon, believed to be a knife, to school.

According to initial information, the suspect is believed to have attacked and stabbed the victim during school hours.

Subsequently, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek issued a statement on Oct 14 saying a special committee has been established to ensure that all aspects related to the stabbing case involving two students are investigated thoroughly, transparently, and fairly.

She said the case is currently under police investigation and confirmed that the suspect has been detained.

She also said a team of counselors and guidance and counseling teachers has been mobilised to provide psychosocial support interventions for the students, teachers, and the entire school community affected by the incident.
