A FORMER student from an independent Chinese school in Johor said she finally felt vindicated after an independent panel found that a teacher had committed sexual harassment, China Press reported.
“It shows that what I experienced really did happen and that what I said was not fabricated. It wasn’t an act of revenge against the teacher, as some people claimed,” she wrote on social media.
The woman had shared a detailed post in April exposing the teacher’s alleged misconduct.
This eventually prompted the school to open an investigation.
On Oct 4, the school held a press conference confirming that the teacher had engaged in inappropriate physical contact with several female students between 2010 and 2013.
The alumna criticised those who defended the teacher’s behaviour as acts of “care” toward students, saying such conduct should never have been tolerated.
“After carrying this pain for more than 10 years, and after months of waiting since I came forward in April, my feelings are complicated. In the past few months, I’ve received unimaginable support and attention,” she said, adding that she was thankful to those who gave her the courage to face her trauma.
She also thanked the school board for its transparency and commitment to reform.
“Even though it came late, it needed to be done,” she said.
> Animals in China’s zoos are suffering from “food comas” after being overfed by throngs of visitors during the country’s Golden Week holidays, Oriental Daily reported.
Photos taken at the Nantong Forest Wildlife Zoo in Jiangsu province showed several alpacas lying motionless on the ground with vacant stares, surrounded by piles of uneaten cabbages and carrots, sparking concern among netizens.
A zoo spokesman confirmed the photos were taken during the holiday rush, explaining that the animals had received an unusually high amount of food from visitors.
The zoo has since increased patrols to ensure animals do not fall ill from overeating.
China’s Golden Week lasted from Oct 1 to 8, extended by the Mid-Autumn Festival coinciding with National Day celebrations.
