King urges Malaysians to take precautions as heatwave persists until June

PUTRAJAYA: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has urged Malaysians to take precautionary measures as hot weather conditions continue to affect the country, with the situation expected to persist until early or mid-June.

In a statement, His Majesty emphasised the importance of safeguarding health by limiting prolonged outdoor activities and ensuring adequate hydration.

“Reduce exposure to extreme heat and drink sufficient water to maintain good health,” His Majesty said in a social media post on Thursday (March 26).

The King also called on the Education Ministry to take the matter seriously and ensure that the well-being of schoolchildren and students is not compromised amid the ongoing heatwave.

At the same time, Sultan Ibrahim highlighted the critical role of the Fire and Rescue Department in enhancing preparedness, warning that the current hot, dry conditions could lead to an increase in fire incidents.

“Members of the public are advised to avoid any form of open burning, as hot and windy conditions can accelerate the spread of fire,” he said.

The King further cautioned that vulnerable groups, including the elderly, children and those with chronic illnesses, should avoid exposure to extreme heat to prevent health complications.

His Majesty expressed appreciation to all safety and emergency agencies, including the Civil Defence Force, as well as healthcare frontliners, for their continued readiness in facing any eventualities during this period of hot weather.
