Thunderstorm warning issued for 10 states as well as KL and Putrajaya


KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected across 10 states as well as Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, with warnings in effect until 3pm on Wednesday (Oct 1).

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the affected states were Kedah, Penang, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.

In Kedah, the districts of Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu are on alert for severe weather.

Penang is also expected to experience adverse conditions.

In Perak, areas such as Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim are under the warning.

In Kelantan, districts including Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang are expected to be affected.

In Terengganu, areas such as Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman are forecasted to be affected.

Pahang is anticipated to experience severe weather conditions.

In Selangor, areas such as Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang are on alert, along with Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

Negeri Sembilan is also under the warning.

Melaka is expected to be affected.

In Johor, districts including Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Baru are forecasted to experience adverse conditions.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
