Strong quake hits Leyte, Philippines, tremors felt in Sandakan, says MetMalaysia


KUALA LUMPUR: A strong earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale struck Leyte, the Philippines, at 9.59pm on Tuesday (Sept 30), with tremors also felt around Sandakan, Sabah.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a statement on Tuesday night said the earthquake occurred about 50km northwest of Ormoc, the Philippines.

According to MetMalaysia, the strong quake was recorded at a depth of 10km.

However, there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
