SEREMBAN: Perikatan Nasional says Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor's speech was taken out of context to make him look like a racist.
Tan Sri Annuar Musa, who is the coalition's information chief, said what the Kedah Mentri Besar meant was that each global citizen have their own country and Malays only have Tanah Melayu.
"He said the Cambodians have Cambodia and the Siamese have Thailand.
"He said this merely to instil patriotism in the Malays," he said in a press conference at the Perikatan media, information and communications centre here on Sunday (July 26)
"His speech has been taken out of context by our rivals to make him look a racist.
"One individual on social media even claimed that Muhammad Sanusi urged Indians to return to India and the Chinese to China," he said, adding that a police report would be lodged on the matter.
Annuar said the people should remember that PAS was among those that provided input to the British to draft Malaysia's Federal Constitution.
"PAS agreed that the rights of all multiracial Malaysians should be safeguarded.
"Although Islam is the core of PAS' policies, there is no place for racism in the party," he said, adding that this was also evident in PAS-ruled states where non-Malays have lived in peace and harmony.
Annuar said Muhammad Sanusi, who is Perikatan's election director, is a senior PAS leader and knows the party's principles.
"I urge our friends from Barisan Nasional not to overreact and to maintain professional decorum and cooperation.
"We know exactly who is behind this," he said, adding that Barisan and Perikatan's enemies do not wish to see their cooperation continue.
On Saturday, Negri Sembilan police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad a report had been lodged against Muhammad Sanusi over his remarks in a speech made during a ceramah on Friday.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 505 of the Penal Code for making statements conducive to public mischief and under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for the improper use of network facilities or services.
