MORE than 30 wild elephants were sighted roaming along roads and near villages in Ulu Tembeling, Pahang, causing concern to residents and tourists, Harian Metro reported.
The herd was frequently spotted along the route between Kampung Kuala Tahan and Kampung Mat Daling.
Masjid Kampung Pagi imam Mi Hamidi Nipah, 56, said the elephants were also seen roaming around Kampung Samas.
“These wild animals may be facing disturbances to their habitat due to logging activities. While their sudden appearance shocked us at first, some villagers and tourists were thrilled to observe them up close,” he said.
Sallehudin Man, 59, estimated the herd to comprise more than 30 elephants, including calves.
The villagers urged authorities to strengthen conservation efforts and manage the wild elephants to prevent untoward incidents.
